Core Curriculum Spiritual Education & Training

In the spring of 1989 the National Spiritual Assembly of the Bahá’ís of the United States charged the National Bahá’í Education Task Force Core Curriculum Logowith:

  • creating a Core Curriculum program based on the Writings of the Faith, designed for children ages six through twelve;

  • establishing a program that is in continuous development;

  • creating a curriculum that involves parents, teachers, institutions and the entire community, with the goal of raising children who are free from prejudice as a necessary part of a Bahá’í education program.

    The Education Task Force began the process with research. The product of their work “took a major step forward in the development of the thinking of the national Bahá’í community regarding the education and raising of children. This research of the Sacred Writings provided the impetus for the Core Curriculum.” This quotation from the National Spiritual Assembly appears on the Acknowledgments page in this 200-plus page book — The text Foundations for a Spiritual Education  is now available online. You can also order it from the Bahá’í Distribution Service at 1-800-999-9019 for $9.95 (order code: FFE).

Core Curriculum Overview — A quick reference and introduction to the Core Curriculum

Core Curriculum Lesson Planning Guides — Bahá’í Education through the Core Curriculum materials covers:

Core Curriculum — Three major content areas

Student Assessments & Teacher’s Records — Two documents are presented here:

  • One is for teachers. It allows them to keep attendance records, keep track of topics through the school year, and plan target dates for lesson completion.

  • The other copy is for each student. It may be marked to indicate dates of learning for a topic, thus providing a transferable individual record for each student.

Core Curriculum Alignment
This document, just completed, shows the alignment of other published materials (i.e., Bahá’í School Lesson Plans, Ruhi, Enlighten, etc.) with the materials in the Core Curriculum Program.

Supplemental Lesson Plans for Children
A collection of plans that have been developed by teachers using the program and they have shared their plans with this Web site and the greater community

Bahá’í School Lesson Plans (1968-1976)
These materials were used by the U.S. Bahá’í Community for many years and are now available for the first time in electronic format. These lessons may be used to teach the goals and topics of the Core Curriculum, using the alignment tool to best determine how to best incorporate these materials into your classes.
